On September 1, 2023 the student concert was held for the first-year students of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University. In interactive areas, students learned about all opportunities they have at the University and got to know each other better.
Student life has started with an annual spectacular event – evening program “Hello, first-year student!”. Thematic areas of the University clubs were organized on the territory of the Botanical Garden (Kommunisticheskaya St): Cinema Club “Contrast”, Literature Club “Reading”, Student Activists School “Foresight”, Student Teams, Club of Board Games, All-Russian Project “Tvoy Hod” (Russian for “Your turn”), Sports Club “Severnye Vityazi” (Russian for “Northern Knights”), Patriotic Club “Generation”, Volunteer Centre, Department of Youth Policy, Verbum Media Centre. First-year students learned more about student clubs and were able to join them.
The University also continued the tradition established last year. First-year students of Pitirim Sorokin SyktSU Institutes who had got the highest exam scores planted the tree seedlings in the Botanical Garden, extending the First-year Students Alley.
The University rector Olga Sotnikova delivered a welcoming speech at the evening concert program. She noted that it was important for first-year students to properly focus on their studies and be ready for a new busy part of their lives:
– Dear first-year students, today is your first day as students of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University. Let your mood for all studying years be positive and student life be bright. Strive for new knowledge and achievements. Whatever the circumstances are, may the desire to work, develop and improve your skills always be with you. Studying at the university is the beginning of a new stage in your life. Good luck!
Honourable guests were also present at the University evening event. The Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Komi Republic Valentina Zhideleva congratulated students on the new academic year and noted the university role in the Republic development:
– “Today you solemnly started the day by raising the flag and singing the anthem of our country, republic and university. I congratulate you on the Knowledge Day and on the first day of your student life. Dear students, I want to make a request to you. Pitirim Sorokin SyktSU is the leading university of the Komi Republic. Therefore, you must unite all the republic students under your banner.”
After congratulation words, the concert program “Hello, first-year student” began, where the best vocal and dance university groups performed: Deep unity, Fancy, Phaeton, Incognito and others. The first-year students also showed their talents: they sang songs, recited poems and danced.
