Migration Card

Migration card is a document containing information about those entering or arriving in the Russian Federation.

When entering Russia, a foreign citizen is obliged to receive and fill out a Migration Card and present it to the official of the border control authority who puts in the Migration Card a mark on entry to the Russian Federation.

The Migration Card is kept by a foreign citizen during the whole period of his/her stay in Russia and it is submitted together with other documents for registration at the place of his/her stay in Russia.

Notification of Migration Registration

Migration registration proves student’s legal stay in Russia. It contains information about a place a student staying at (the University’s dormitory). A foreign citizen who has entered the Russian Federation, must obtain the Migration Registration at the place of residence within 7 working days since arrival.

Migration registration of a foreign citizen who has arrived at SyktSU is performed by the International Department of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University in the Administration for Migration in case of staying in SyktSU dormitories.

To apply for Registration a student has to provide the International Department of the University with the following documents:

  • Passport / copies of all marked pages and valid visa;
  • Migration Card / copy of both sides.

Removal from Migration Registration

Removal from the migration registration is carried out in case of departure from the place of stay (e.g. the dormitory) or leaving the Russian Federation.

BEFORE leaving the dormitory/Syktyvkar/Russia a student must come to the International Department, notify the University about his/her departure and fill the application form.

IMPORTANT! In case of staying in a hotel, hospital or other organizations which provide hotel services the Migration Registration of the University becomes invalid. Thus, after leaving a hotel, hospital or other organizations which provide hotel services and being back to the dormitory a student must come to the International Department and apply for a NEW Migration Registration.

Extension of Visa

To apply for visa extension a student has to to provide the International Department with the following documents at least ONE MONTH before current visa has expired:

  • Passport / copies of all pages;

  • Migration Card / copy of both sides;

  • Migration Registration / copy of both sides;

  • The receipt of the state duty payment in the amount established by the legislation of the Russian Federation;

  • Photo (3×4 cm; white background);

  • Signed visa application form.

Period of Stay

In order to extend the period of stay in the Russian Federation a foreign citizen has to present at the International Department of SyktSU the following documents:

  • Passport / copies of all pages;

  • Migration Card and its copy of both sides;

  • Migration Registration / copy of both sides;
