The administration of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University held a working meeting with the Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Park Joo Yong. The meeting took place during the official visit to the Republic of Komi.
The parties discussed the prospect of building cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Komi Republic in the field of education. The Rector of the University Olga Sotnikova informed the Deputy Consul General about the activities of the University and the areas of study in demand.
– Our university is a forge of personnel in almost all directions, not only for our region, but also for Russia as a whole. For example, a graduate of whom we are very proud – the founder of the Dodo Pizza company Fyodor Ovchinnikov, – noted Olga Sotnikova. – One of the strongest areas in our university is IT. The demand for qualified programmers, or in a broader sense, for IT specialists is growing year by year. This is due to the development of the industry itself: the scope of applying artificial intelligence and neural networks is constantly expanding, the technologies themselves are becoming more complex, and this, in turn, requires more specialists.
The meeting was attended by a second-year university student of the master’s programme «Sociology of Communications» Vladimir Rabkin, a participant in a student research paper competition organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in St. Petersburg in honor of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Republic of Korea. It was interesting for the Korean guests to get to know him personally and learn about his scientific work “Partnership relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea: modern experience of interaction in the context of the globalization of the consumer goods market.” The winners of the competition will be able to visit South Korea.
Park Joo Yong expressed hope that representatives of the Komi Republic would take part in the Third Korean-Russian Forum of Interregional Cooperation, which will be held in early November in the Korean city of Ulsan.

The Deputy Consul General was presented the university’s potential in the areas of study in demand, noting the contribution of young scientists who have an active life position and contribute to the development of science in the region. The excursion for the delegation was conducted by the Vice-Rector for Organizational Affairs of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University Larisa Kazakova.
