Students and members of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University Student Scientific Association took part in the international forum of young scientists «Russia in the Arctic Dialogue: Global and Local Contexts», which was held in Arkhangelsk on May 25-27.

The main goal of the forum was to become a platform that brings initiative researchers from Russia and around the world together who are interested in the study and development of the Arctic region. The participants expanded their knowledge about the Arctic, major scientific and industrial projects in the region, discussed the most pressing issues of development and exploration of the Arctic region with experts, and modeled their own vision of modern challenges in the Arctic.

Interdisciplinary dialogue has contributed to the strengthening of international cooperation and the development of Arctic diplomacy, opening up new horizons for initiative researchers in their scientific and professional careers.

Within the framework of the forum, students were given the opportunity to listen to lectures «Is the Arctic Council possible without Russia?», «The Arctic Strategy of the Russian Federation 2035», «Arctic Exploration 2.0», «Legal Regimes of the Arctic and Antarctic: Comparative Analysis», «Climate Change: Causes, Trends and Forecasts for the Arctic», to take part in the round table «Arctic Science and Business: Risks and Challenges», to visit the Malye Korely State Museum of Wooden Architecture and Folk Art of the Russia Northern Regions and many other events.

This forum was attended by three university students including two foreign students: Riad Cherif Elmedjadji, student of the Institute of Economics and Management, specialization «Tourism»; Akosua Aduofua Opoku, student of the Institute of Economics and Management, direction of training «Management»; Artem Belyaev, a student of the Institute of History and Law, the direction of training «Pedagogical education (with two training profiles) ».

Akosua Aduofua and Riad Cherif got an unforgettable experience from participating in the forum and made new acquaintances.

Artem Belyaev noted that the international forum of young scientists «Russia in the Arctic Dialogue: Global and Local Contexts» impressed him a lot:

— I learned a lot about international relations in the Arctic, climate change, annual expeditions, in particular for students. Acquaintance with the hero of Russia Mikhail Malakhov gave a good example of how to achieve your goals, go only forward (don’t give up)! I met wonderful students from other Russian universities, foreigners from Mexico, Jordan, Algeria, Ghana, China, Cameroon and other countries.

— I am grateful for the opportunity to attend this wonderful international forum of young scientists «Russia in the Arctic Dialogue: Global and Local Contexts». I have learned a lot, the experience gained will forever remain in my memory, – commented Akosua Aduofua. – The conference was thoroughly organized, it was nice to see the great heroes of Russia – the explorers of the Arctic. It was an honor for me to be among the leading researchers, professionals and analysts who are interested in the development of the Arctic region.

— The conference was a success. Students from all over the country offered their ideas for solving various problems in the Arctic. We participated with our proposals in the section «Arctic: stay or leave». Digitalization can reduce the migration outflow of young people from the Arctic territories or significantly reduce the level of youth migration. This problem can be solved by offering acceptable alternative (digital) forms of work and quality education, as well as ensuring other significant needs of young people and the motives that accompany the desire to migrate: professional and personal growth, making new friends, socialization, self-realization. I would like to thank Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University and the forum organizers for supporting and funding the event. This has a real positive meaning for the whole world, – Riad Cherif Elmedjadji said.
