The Consul General of India in St. Petersburg Kumar Gaurav visited Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University. This meeting was part of his business trip to the Komi Republic.
The University’s rector Olga A. Sotnikova, the Vice-rector for academic affairs Mikhail D. Kitaigorodskii and the Head of International Department Svetlana E. Obshanskaia, the first Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Komi Republic Anton I. Vinogradov and the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Komi Republic Maxim A. Ganov took part in the event.
Olga A. Sotnikova told the foreign guest about the navigation system at the University, as well as about the first rector Valentina A. Vityazeva. Then the rector conducted a short tour of the university, showing the craft products made by academic staff and students of the Institute of Culture and Art.
The meeting continued at the round table. The Consul General of India in St. Petersburg highlighted that our countries cooperate in several areas: politics, security, economics, science and technology, culture.
– This is my first time in Syktyvkar and I am very glad to hear that about fifty students from India are studying at your university, – noted Kumar Gaurav. – It should be noted, the Consulate has not received a single complaint from Indian students of the University, and this means that you really care about them.
In response, Olga A. Sotnikova mentioned that the University provides with education not only Indian students, but also students from other countries.
– There are two hundred and seventeen international students from nineteen countries currently studying at the University. The first students from India joined us in 2018 and they received their diplomas in July of this year. Two graduates present here decided to continue their studies in residency training program, – the rector said.
The rector emphasized that foreign students need help in adapting to new living conditions and a new country. With this purpose, the university holds various events. In addition, Syktyvkar institutions and organizations invite foreign students to join their events.
The head of the international department, Svetlana E. Obshanskaia, spoke about the extracurricular life of our foreign students.
Kumar Gaurav said that this visit to the University was also a gesture of care for his compatriots. First-year residency students of the Medical Institute, Yuktha Subha Vinathi Jallepalli and Pavan Kumar Appikatla, who were present at the meeting, told about their lives and study in the North. After the conversation with the future surgeons, the Consul General was pleased with the students’ mood.
At the end of the meeting, the guest from India was presented with memorable gifts: a bear statuette made by a student of the Institute of Culture and Arts, as well as the book about the Komi Republic. Kumar Gaurav presented Olga A. Sotnikova with a marble desk set decorated with an elephant statuette – a symbol of power, dignity, wisdom and peacefulness.
