Climate

The size and length of the territory, the influence of the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, the natural barrier of the Ural Mountains in the east create a heterogeneous climate. These places are characterized by frequent invasions of cold Arctic and relatively warm Atlantic air masses. Such conditions are a fertile ground for cyclones, sudden changes in pressure and air temperature, rapid changes in the direction and speed of winds, and an abundance of precipitation. Location in the subarctic and temperate climatic zones determines the climate with severe long winters (up to -50° C) and short cool summers.

Online-conference «75th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany»

May 9, 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazi Germany. Thanks to the courage and heroism of the Soviet people and those who fought against fascism in other countries, the world and human civilization itself were saved. To commemorate this date students and teachers of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University made a special website with students’ essays about the war in the English language. The site is the result of the conference «Мультикультурный мир: проблема взаимопонимания / Multicultural world: the problems of mutual understanding». An Exercise in PatriotismThe Institute of Foreign Languages ​​of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University helped the National Library of the Komi Republic to make translations of the local newspaper chronicles from the World War II period into English. It was made by the 5th year students in the course of their English language studies.The original texts were borrowed from the local newspaper, Za Noviy Sever (To the New North). Some of them have appeared in the 2020 online library project, Chronograph, which introduces newspaper articles of the past to a wider public. Distance learning in Russia due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic

The Ministry of Science and High Education of the Russian Federation, under the instruction of the Government of Russia Federation, recommends to all the Universities to continue the education process in on-line regime in order to decrease as much as possible the emergency of coronavirus outbreak in Russia (https://minobrnauki.gov.ru/common/upload/library/2020/03/main/397.pdf)Due to the declared state of emergency in Russia, being obliged to follow the recommendations by the Ministry, the Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University, the flagship University of the Komi Republic, has decided to close the campuses since March, 16 till April, 12. On February 19, the event called “Dona Kyv” (“My dear language” in Komi), dedicated to the International Day of Native Language, was held in the Youth Library of the Komi Republic.
